Ways to Care for your Hair

Health, strength and beauty of hair depends primarily on its nerve vigor and the good circulation of the oily scalp secretion which gives it gloss and luster. Hair that is dull, dry, brittle or frizzy is unhealthy and unattractive. Shiny hair is a sign of health because the layers of the cuticle lie flat and reflect light. Hair needs regular cleansing to remain healthy and to restore lost oils. Many people who have curly hair also have dry hair. Curly and dry hair types are usually more fragile than straight hair, so you'll need to be especially careful about using heat styling products. Shampoos made for dry hair and hair conditioners can help. Healthy, attractive hair should shine. Whether your hair is long or short, light or dark, it should look smooth, silky and shiny. Hair that is dull, dry, brittle or frizzy is unhealthy and unattractive.

Regular haircuts are one of the best ways to help keep hair healthy. A haircut can help protect the ends of your hair from splitting and damage. Hair can break when points in the hair thicken or weaken. A major cause of hair breakage is improper use of chemical hair treatments. Many herbal shampoos, for instance, will sell you on the fact that they contain some herbs, yet their base formula contains traditional surfactants (foaming agents) such as sodium lauryl sulphate. Massaging hair and scalp is important for the well being as well as good growth of the hair. Hair extensions and braids can also cause breakage. Leaving them in too long or pulling them out without professional help can cause hair and scalp damage or even hair loss.

The hair should never be worn "done up" constantly. Another way to help prevent hair loss is to make sure that you don’t style it in a way that will influence it negatively. Scalp massage makes the hair grow and prevents many hair troubles. Scalp massage makes the hair grow and prevents many hair troubles. A five-minute finger-tip massage, night and morning, is the one ounce of prevention worth a pound of cure. The electrical massage by a professional (after a shampoo), the violet ray, and the rubber-disk vibrator are all excellent for the hair. Daily care of the scalp, massage and brushing, if persisted in when the disorder first appears, are very beneficial. A drop or two of rosemary will give a boost to darker hair, while chamomile oil will do wonders for lighter hair colors.
