Is bottled mineral water healthy? The makers of natural mineral water h20 would have you think that it is. Maybe we should look at some facts about the bottled water industry, and how it’s affecting our lives.
Bottling is one of the biggest polluting industries in the United States. There are over 60,000,000 plastic bottles that are being produced, transported and disposed of every day, in this country alone. From an environmental standpoint it would be really difficult to proclaim bottled mineral water healthy.
There is also the issue of the true quality of natural mineral water h20 and other products like it. The majority of bottled water that is manufactured and sold here does not fall under the jurisdiction of the FDA’s set of bottled water standards. How is it possible that the bottlers are able to avoid federal regulation?
The fact is that the majority of bottled water companies will produce and sell their water only in the same state, thereby avoiding federal control. Only if the water crosses state lines doe it fall under the guidelines of the FDA. Knowing that the manufacturers are using a loophole to escape from government standards do you still consider bottled mineral water healthy?
Did you know that while city tap water is allowed to have no fecal coliform or E-coli bacteria present, bottled products such as mineral water h20 fall under no such prohibition? Even under FDA regulation there are certain allowable limits at which contaminants may be present.
There are also no regulations in place stating that bottlers must filter or disinfect the water used in their product. It is almost certain that the manufacturers probably do some kind of filtering to make their mineral water healthy, but the level of purity has to be questioned.
Most bottled water is nothing more than filtered tap water poured into a closed container. The makers of natural mineral water h20 claim that their water actually comes from a spring. One disturbing aspect of drawing surface water from a spring is that bottlers are not required to test their sources for Giardia or Cryptosporidium, two common bacteria that cause intestinal illnesses.
Is mineral water healthy? There are only limited guidelines set as to the level of quality that the bottlers have to adhere to, so you don’t know exactly how or if the water has been purified. If you have to look at a bottle and wonder about the quality of the product inside, then I would have to say no to the question.
If your water is packaged in plastic bottles like mineral water h20, then it cannot be healthy for you no matter what kind of purification process it’s been through. Phthalate is a cancer-causing chemical used in the process of rendering plastic more flexible. This toxic carcinogen can leach from the plastic into your water.
A better answer to bottled water would be a home water filtration system. If you purchased one of the best systems, then you would never have reason to question the quality and purity of your drinking water again. A home water filter can give you gallons of water for pennies per day, as opposed to the dollars you were spending on bottled.
It would be nearly impossible to ever consider bottled mineral water healthy with everything that you know now.
