Dom Pérignon Champagne - Finest Drink in the Universe?

Dom Pérignon is truly an expensive fluid, with it's 1996 vintage costing £150.00 a bottle, it's 1998 costing £105.00, and it's 1999 costing around £80.00, it is truly an exeptional drink. This article aims to explore the drink, it's history, it's special characteristics, and most of all, it's TRUE place in the monarchy of the champagne world. Dom Perignon Champagne

_____________________________________________________________________________

Dom Pérignon was actually Dom Pierre Pérignon (1638-1715), a benedictine monk credited with the invention of the processes of modern champagne. The well-known cuvée of Champagne Dom Pérignon is just named after him.

The first vintage of Dom Pérignon was actually produced in 1921, but was not released until after the Great Depression in 1936. Dom Pérignon is a true vintage wine, meaning that all the grapes in it are harvested in the same year. Dom Pérignon is only made in years which yield good quality grapes.

Just before I continue with this article, I must make it known that I have actually NEVER been lucky enough to taste Dom Perignon champagne - only to read about it and (now) write about it. Anybody who actually HAS tasted this drink, please comment on this article: it would be much appreciated.

It has been described as more of a savoury than a sweet drink using a special blend of only the very finest grapes and yeasts, with hints of almost a special toasty flavour.

It is a drink pursued by businessmen, politicians, footballers and movie stars of course!

The froth which forms on the surface of the champagne once poured has been thought of as the best froth formed by any champagne: smooth, creamy, and thoroughly delicious. Although some have been dissappointed with the drink, having paid so much they expected something better than what they got....

So the king of champange - Dom Perignon - there we have it.
