Candida and pH Levels – The Connection

Those who have a poor pH (potential hydrogen) level or are even mildly acidic can be people who experience (and are more prone to) candida problems. The higher your pH level, the more alkaline your body and being alkaline is something you want to strive for. Because candida yeast thrive and replicate in an acidic environment, getting to a more alkaline state will serve your good health in many ways including the reduction of candida bacteria overgrowth.

The amount of oxygen in your body can increase your health and a very poor pH level can lead to illness and disease. Candida albicans live in all our bodies but are generally kept in check and at bay by our immune systems and the healthy flora we also house. When things go off kilter, havoc can ensue and candida infections can be a result.

Acidity levels can contribute to the growth of candida albicans which will have adverse reactions on your health. Not only does candida result in vaginal discharge, penile infection and oral thrush but a whole plethora of symptoms can occur including:

  • Food cravings
  • Fatigue
  • Sinusitis
  • Anxiety
  • Constipation or diarrhoea
  • Acne
  • Depression
  • Low sex drive
  • Digestive disorders

And more. In fact, candida is becoming more widely known as a problem in the health world and as a result, many people seek a cure to their candida problem because it is not only in their life once but often recurs. Candida

Why is candida recurring? Even if you cure your candida infection once, it is likely to return if the lifestyle choices you practice are what created a candida infection in the first place. It might be just a matter of time before the candida growth get to the level where they create symptoms for you. Those who get a yeast infection because of an infection, because of the use of antibiotics or because of another factor are not as at risk as someone who is simply prone to candida. If you have a low pH level, you will be more prone to yeast infections and many other diseases.

How do you change your proneness to candida?

Your pH level can be adjusted based on what you eat and drink. Eating more alkaline foods and fewer acidic foods can significantly impact your pH level which can create a more harmonious environment for positive bacteria.

Positive bacteria or flora can prevent the harmful candida albicans from replicating. Eating and drinking alkaline foods would include: high pH water, coral calcium, almonds, fresh fruits and vegetables and would mean reducing acidic foods such as sugar, artificial sweeteners, processed foods and red meat.

Finding Out Your pH level

You can easily be tested for your pH level by purchasing pH test kits which are readily available in health food stores or online. By changing to more alkaline foods, following a candida diet and reducing your sugar and yeast intake you can make your body more resistant to candida growth and a healthy pH level can lead to increased health and vitality. Body pH levels impact many areas of your health above and beyond yeast growth so an alkaline diet can benefit your health in more ways than one.
