Helpful Tips for New Mom Weight Loss

Here are a few tips to help you succeed at your New Mom Weight Loss goals:

  • Plan Ahead: This can be a tough one with a little one running around. Try to plan for the week ahead on the wekends. Make it easy to have breakfast every day, keep your freezer packed with whole grain waffles and English muffins and keep your fridge stocked with yogurt and fruit. All of these make it easy to grab breakfast on the go.
Spend a few hours on Sunday and organize snacks in baggies. You can choose pretzels, veggies, fruits. Try to pack at least a weeks worth of snacks so that you can throw them in your bag for on-the-go, easy to-eat snacks.
  • Make Exercise Part of Your Day: Keep a pair of gym shoes and workout clothes with you are all times so that you are always comfortable. Try to get 10-20 minutes of walking in every day. If you put your mind to it you can really find times where it is easy to talk a longer walk while you are out doing errands. Don't park so far away that you leave yourself in an abandoned area. Park normally but take a lap around the parking lot or if you are in the grocery store take an additional lap before you pay. Anytime you do at least 10 minutes worth of exercise write it down on your calendar. When you see how it adds up you will be encouraged to try to fit in more time.
  • Drink Water: Have a water bottle with you through out the day. Water gives the body a sense of fullness and aids in digestion. If you are not a big water drinker try adding lemon or lime to it for a little flavor.
  • Don't Miss Out On Sleep: Research shows that sleep deprivation can make it difficult to lose weight.  Your body produces more Ghrelin, a hormone that makes you hungry, and less Leptin, a hormone that increases your feeling of fullness.
