You know that feeling of words, especially names on the end of your tongue? Also known as the "mental-pause" stage of menopause. You will be telling someone a story and they look at you puzzled, because you can't remember the name of the street or the people involved or even the date. I may be exaggerating a little there, but you get the drift.
During menopause this is very common, but you can battle it by giving your brain a good workout. We all tend to have routines that we do during our day without even thinking. In fact, sometimes we can't even remember the moments such as brushing our teeth, since these are such routine activities.
One way to combat mental-pause during menopause, is to do these exercises, that make the brain have to think about what is going on..
1. When you go to brush your teeth, put the toothbrush in your other hand, and then try. You have shaken up the routine, and now you have to think about what you are doing.
2. Try writing with your opposite hand when making your grocery list, or jotting a note down.
3. Try puzzles... such as crossword, word find, suduko and others to get your brain stimulated.
4. Take a night course in something totally different from what you do in your work day, and expand your mind, give it a good workout.
5. If you regularly run or walk, take a different route, take in some new scenery.
If you practice these exercises, you will notice your brain and memory to be more alert. You need to shake it up a bit, because when we keep doing the same activities over and over we tend to put our brain on auto pilot. By shaking it up you will actually feel more vibrant, and not sluggish.. Try it.. and get through this mental pause stage of menopause with a vibrant brain and memory.
