PCOS Hair Loss - Beat the symptoms of PCOS!!!

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) has various symptoms which differ from person to person. The symptoms start gradually, often times, most noticeable after a weight gain. The hormonal changes leading to PCOS usually starts after the first menstrual period.

The earliest signs of a PCOS include irregular or absent menstrual periods and irregular and heavy vaginal bleeding. Hair loss and hair growth, as well as development of other secondary sex characteristics such as deepening of the voice, acne that progressively gets worse, and depression are also among in the early symptoms of PCOS.

The late symptoms include obesity or weight gain, high blood pressure, male pattern baldness, repeated miscarriages, infertility, skin patches, breathing problems when sleeping and pain in the pelvis and lower abdomen.

PCOS Hair Loss

Among these symptoms, one of the most alarming for women is the loss of hair that accompanies PCOS. Loss of hair or known scientifically as alopecia is one of the major symptoms of PCOS, and is one sign that most women fear in having. Their baldness is caused by the increased male hormones in their body due to the hormonal imbalance that they have because of their illness.

These male hormones are later on converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and then bind to certain sites on the hair follicle which causes the hair produced by the follicle to be thinner at every hair growth cycle.

Therefore, in the course of the treatment of the PCOS, when the major symptoms of the illness subside, the hair loss will also disappear.
