Once I had an idea of the various technologies involved in hair laser treatment, my next step was to find out how much it was going to cost me. I didn’t want to get started on my hair laser treatment, and then find myself running out of money half way through.
The first thing I found out is that while everyone talks of hair laser treatment as being permanent, it is rarely so. This is why the FDA calls is laser hair reduction and not removal. That being said, hair laser treatment is still the best long term solution to body hair issues, but do not expect miracles. Depending on the part of the body where the hair is, the density of the growth and the skin type, the number of sittings to get rid of hair from a specific area, will vary. A ball park figure can be that for most people hair laser treatment that removes hair completely and which requires only occasional maintenance treatment in the future can be done in 3 to 4 sessions.
Now how much does a hair laser treatment cost? Well, every clinic and every doctor will have their own rates so it is impossible to provide any definite figures. Also many clinics offer special package deals with a high single treatment cost, and subsequent treatments at lower rates. Some even offer a flat rate for the three, four or more hair laser treatments it may take for the hair to be removed completely in such a manner that there are no visible signs of re-growth for a specified time frame.
However, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons says that the average cost of one hair laser treatment is $429 (as of 2008). The regional break up of hair laser treatment costs is as follows (again this is only an approximation):
North - $ 440
South - $ 400
East - $ 425
West – $ 420
Midwest - $ 450
As for the cost of hair laser treatment on various parts of the body, the following is an approximate break up – this will vary depending on the part of the country and the actual clinic or doctor’s fees. The average cost of 1 sitting for:
Hair laser treatment for arms is - $ 350 to $500
Hair laser treatment for the back is - $ 600 to $ 900
Hair laser treatment for bikini area is - $ 350 to $ 500
Hair laser treatment for chest area is - $350 to $600
Hair laser treatment for face and neck is - $ 600 to $ 900
Hair laser treatment for Legs (either lower or upper) is - $ 600 to $ 850
Hair laser treatment for under arms is - $ 250 to $ 350
Remember that these are per session costs and the total cost to you will depend on the total number of hair laser treatment you will need. While doctors will not give you a guaranteed number of sessions that you will require for your hair laser treatment, they will give you an approximate number on which you can plan your budget.
I found that while the initial costs of hair laser treatment may seem high, the long term benefits more than justified it. And once the hair laser treatment is done; the occasional maintenance treatment that may be required only once or twice a year, works out economical, in comparison to the ongoing regular expenses of other forms of hair removal treatments.
