For those of you that want to know the best of the best in black natural hair care I would like to introduce myself. I am the creator of several hair care lines and would like to take a second to explain the difference between black hair and other races of hair and how important the products can be to helping you with your hair product choices.
There are several major name brands of black hair care but the best known is most likely Nioxin, KMS, Motions and Healthy Hair Plus. So which of these can really help your hair and which of these is coating your hair. First I would like to tell you some statistics about black hair or African American Hair. Most men and over 50% of women do their own hair. Most shampoo only one time per week. Women that straighten or perm their hair suffer over 90% more hair problems than black women that don't and finally most use hair products that they buy at the drug store or at the super market. Very few actually use salon grade products on their hair. Even the products purchased at beauty supply stores can be cheap. So what can you do? Well the first thing that you should notice those that color treat, perm or straighten their hair have more hair problems. This is because when you straighten your hair you break down what is referred to as the cystine bond in the hair. This breaks down the protection that hair has against heat. Breaking down this barrier causes the cuticle to open up even more. I say even more because the cuticle in black hair is already open because of the curl. Therefore it is vital to make sure that you help to close down the cuticle after perms and relaxers.
Picking the right shampoo, conditioners and treatments for black hair is vital to keeping hair it's healthiest. So what is the best product that you can use for your hair? The answer is simple. Hair Vitamins! That is right. Hair vitamins do an amazing job of replenishing hair that has been drained of vital nutrients. The vitamin should include b vitamins, amino acids as well as specific minerals that are all the building blocks of hair growth.
Using a good hair vitamin helps tremendously in creating a good environment for healthy hair growth. We estimate that your hair could grow 3 to 4 times faster when using a hair vitamin that one is not being taken. This means that you can grow your hair out for a wedding or occasion or you can use vitamins. There is also vitamin spray that is out in the market that can be misted into the hair but that does not seem to be as effective as the oral hair vitamin.
As far as shampoos go- make sure that you really do your research on which shampoos to choose from. There are cheap products out on the market and very few real quality products for the African American hair care market. Even the brand name products can be cheap and while you think that you are saving money you are really drying out your hair. Shampoos that are cheaper have higher amounts of surfactant and less herbal extracts. These surfactants are what dry out your hair with each use. Unfortunately there is no way to tell which products have higher amounts of these drying agents. The best way to search for hair care products for black hair is by word of mouth and also by price tag. Brands like Nioxin and Healthy Hair Plus both have very good pricing on salon grade products including shampoos. Nioxin calls their line Smoothing while Healthy Hair Plus sells Emu Shampoo and Conditioner to their African American clients.
