Silver used in jewellery is one of the finest metals available. Silver that is used in jewellery is not 100 percent pure, because pure silver is very soft, too soft to be used in jewellery. Therefore, it is mixed with some other metals, known as impurities, and is then used in jewellery.

First of all let's talk about cost. Cost wise, silver is much less expensive than gold. Thus, it is in easy reach of the majority of the population. People who are not that wealthy can also afford silver jewellery and fulfill their dreams of wearing jewellery. Consequently, silver jewellery is the most popular amongst the lower-income people. Next, we talk about college guys and youngsters. The young generation is very fond of wearing stylish silver jewellery, such as silver bracelets and silver earrings. They don't consider gold as a trendy jewellery to wear.

Let us come to the middle income groups. In western countries, middle income people are not fond of wearing gold jewellery. But in eastern countries, gold jewellery is the most popular jewellery. Ideally, silver jewellery matches all kinds of outfits and skin tones. On the other hand, gold jewellery matches only formal and party wear. Some people are interested in buying gold from an investment point of view. But then, silver can also give a decent return on their investments.

A few decades back, gold was the most expensive and most popular jewellery. Later, diamond and platinum jewellery came into the market, and surpassed the popularity of gold as the most expensive jewellery. People started liking diamond jewellery, which further matched more with silver than with gold. Diamonds studded in yellow gold didn't look good. Whereas silver and platinum studded with diamonds looked very pretty. The popularity of silver jewellery is ever rising. Further, as a consequence of the recent global recession, use of silver jewellery has increased significantly because it is now the only jewellery that is in easy reach of most people.
