Soccer moms have found that in these economic hard times there is a new way to go shopping and that is in other soccer mom's closets. They are called swap parties and are being held all over the country where soccer moms get together and bring items such as clothing, kitchen goods, decorative items for the house and tools from the garage to be traded among each other.
Swaps are best known for trading clothing among soccer moms whose children are around the same age or whose children have out grown their clothing and they are in need of other items for their house or apartment. Swapping is almost like a garage sale or yard sale only without the hassle of dealing with money. Trading a newborns clothing for a toddlers clothing when one soccer mom is about to have a newborn and her toddler has outgrown all the baby items is a great way for soccer moms to get what they need for their children and not have to spend money doing it.
Swapping clothing can be fun, too. Gather all of your clothing you no longer wear or have outgrown and do the same for each of your children, placing everything in a box or bag and labeling them clearly. Other soccer moms will do the same and on a given day, at someone's house in their basement or large room, everyone sets up in a separate area. They set up their items like a mini flea market or swap meet and then go around the room and each person can hold up an item and see if someone wants to trade one of their items with what you are holding up. This can be fun, yet time consuming.
If the idea of everyone holding up one item at a time seems too time consuming and daunting, then perhaps everyone can walk around the room in pairs and see if someone wants to trade items. Maybe you already know that one of the soccer moms has a boy older than your son and you would like his hand-me-downs and she is about to have another boy so you can trade up your son's clothing for her son's clothes.
Sports equipment and dance shoes and recital outfits are also good items to be traded with other soccer moms and their children. It's best to have the children there to try on the newly swapped outfits to make sure they will fit them or that the children will grow into them in a reasonable amount of time.
Other items that can be swapped is outdoor furniture for indoor furniture if you are redecorating and have a limited budget, wall decorations, computer hardware and software, shoes and outer wear and just about anything you no longer want or need, it just may be that your soccer mom friends may have something you want or need for your house or children.
Taking an afternoon to hold a swap for the other soccer moms is worth the little bit of effort to make some snacks and get everyone and their unwanted items together. It's a fun way to go 'shopping' without the money or the hassle of leaving your neighborhood.
