A Strategic approach to Admission Essay Writing

The very first subject one tends to write in one’s lifespan will be about oneself. It offers a limitless supply of materials. More than that, you are the ultimate authority to pass any comment on yourself.  You can view you only in a single viewpoint. At the same time, you can analyze yourself in all possible dimensions. As far as you are concerned, you are a unified whole. There is no scope for multiple verdicts. No one knows you better than yourself. So there is no room for overstatement false statement.  For all these reasons, an admission essay opens a wide world before you.

Admission essays help you to enter your campus of choice. What you achieve in your life is closely related to how you study. How you study depends very much on where you study. The decision to join a campus is in fact a defining moment for all. How well you write about yourself determines your right of entry to the campus.  When you are to submit an autobiographical sketch to the college authority for admission, keep in mind that your future is decided there. Approach an admission essay with utmost care.

Though writing about oneself seems to be easy at a first glance, it can be one of the hardest subjects you have ever dealt with. Here, one is reminded of Montaigne’s worthy words; “There is no description as difficult as describing oneself.” Writing about oneself is the starting point in one’s writing career. Subsequently, one starts writing about other people, things, and concepts and so on. There is a steady movement from absolute concrete things to much complex abstract speculations. You are competent enough to write higher degree essays only if you have started from the initial point. In that way, an admission essay fulfils more than one requirement.

Several factors in your life contribute to shape the present you. There may be notable and trifling incidents. You can present a noteworthy experience of yours which had a tremendous impact on you.  You must tell that, that particular experience did a great job to cultivate a new outlook on you.

Never be casual in saying anything. Be responsible. Show the panel that you are capable of handling a grave academic course. To create such an impression on them, explain any responsibility you have held in the past. Talk about your honors, awards, school activities, travel experiences, positions held community services etc. Don’t portray an experience about which you have only a vague remembrance. Make sure that you have a complete command over the things you are dealing with. Explain who are you as an individual. Your admission essay must reveal your attitude too. At a single reading itself, the panel must be able to know what kind of a person you are.

Besides certain incidents, certain personalities might also have had an inspiration on your development as a person. Everyone will have a role model in life. Where there is a strong positive inspiration, it is practically impossible for you to go wrong. It is beyond a shadow of a doubt that no one was ever great without some portion of inspiration from extraordinary personalities. If there is/ are such, mention it. What qualities in them have caught your attraction has to be made clear.

An admission essay committee can ask you to write about any of your aspects. But there are general trends.  Here are some frequently asked questions by an admission panel. Why you have chosen this particular campus? What other people say about you? How do you look at things around? If you could have dinner with anyone in history, who would it be and why? Which is your favorite subject and why? An essay cannot be generated from vacuum. There is a winning formula, the draft, which is the predecessor of all essays. If you are able to come out with a reasonably good draft, there is no doubt in the successful completion of your essay. It is a torch bearer who leads you further when you have a little difficulty in marching forward. A draft is therefore an elementary requirement for all those who aspire to come out with an effortless admission essay. Make a draft which highlights you. Highlight your strengths and never hide your weaknesses. A man who gives a good account of himself is probably lying.  But you can minimize your weakness. An admission essay written in a systematic way can lead you to nowhere but to the arena of your dreams. Be equipped. Be a winner.
