English Essay Writing

English essay writing is now very popular because of the popularity of this language all over the world. English language can be said the only global language in the true sense. Writing an essay always has two parts, the first one is the technical matter and the second one is the language. In the coming sections we will tell you about the different ways of writing proper English language in an essay.

At the time of using English sentences in an essay always remember two points. These points are 1) coherence i.e. the relation of words in a sentence to each other words expressing closely connected ideas should stand close together. 2) Emphasis: The beginning and ending of the sentences are the striking position, so important words should occupy these positions. Other points are studied in the following lines:

A)    Melody: The harsh combination of sounds should be avoided, for example ‘the dog gaped or pat turned, I eyed him’ etc. Melodious sounds are pleasant to listen and pleasant to read. Melody will make the way easier for the meaning of the word to enter in mind. Clearness and energy, how ever, should not be sacrificed to melody. The methods to achieve melody are- a) Jingle of the same sound recurring should be avoided b) Alliteration should be cautiously employed c) The jingle of the similar syllables is very unmelodious. B)    Climax: It means arranging of words, phrases, clauses, sentences so as to rise in intensity to the close. For example,” Yet now a days, weeks and months out seem recollection of a dream.”

C)    Condensed sentences: These types of sentences not only rivet the attention but also serve like a slogan, which sticks to the mind of the readers. For example,” Wrapped in my great coat and my silence, I journeyed on” Here the literal and the metaphorical use of wrapped come into sharp contrast.

D)    Unity of the sentence: Sentence is a “thought expressed in words”. But the unity of the sentence does not mean that only one thought may go into a sentence; the numbers of the ideas in any sentence depend upon the matter. Two general rules can be laid down for preserving unity 1) nothing should be inserted that is likely to distract attention from the main idea of the sentence 2) If a sentence has more than one idea those should have a connection. It should be clear that it is the length of the sentence that determines unity. The following sentence exemplifies unity: “Here he was standing by accident at an opening of his pavilion enjoying the morning sunshine, when suddenly to the west ward arose a vast cloud vapor, which by degrees, expanded, mounted and seemed to be slowly diffusing itself over the whole face of heaven”.

E)     Balanced sentence: A sentence is balanced when words occupy corresponding the successive phrases or clauses are similar in construction i.e. the corresponding words occupy corresponding places.
