Article marketing is one of the best methods to get traffic to your website for little or no cost; it is ideal for anyone starting out on the Internet. The problem is, how do you get enough quality articles written in order to get significant traffic to your site?
You’ve probably read about the many ghostwriters available online that will write articles for a fee. You claim all rights to the articles and can place your own name as the author. Sounds great, doesn’t it? The problem with this approach is you will often get low quality articles and they may not even be original.
If you’re on a budget, like most people starting out with article marketing, then you’ll try to get articles written for the least amount possible. If a writer is only getting paid a few dollars an article, you can bet they’re not likely doing much research on the topic, or spending time on the grammar, or worrying about the overall structure of the article. You also run the risk of the ghostwriter plagiarizing someone else’s work (and since you contain the copyrights on the article you’re the one held liable). The writer may even reuse the same articles they wrote for someone else.
The old adage, “you get what you pay for” is apparent here and since most people can’t afford quality ghostwriters, it’s best to write your own articles – at least to start. The benefit here is you have complete control over the content of the article; it’s 100% original, and you build up a style of writing that is consistent across all your articles.
Coming up with topics for your articles
Most people have trouble writing articles on a steady basis and the main reason is they simply cannot come up with topics to write about.
The best thing to do here is to browse several article sites in the categories that are related to your niche. Look at what other people are writing about and see if you can write about something similar. Perhaps you can expand on an idea in an article you read. You can even summarize several different articles on a related topic and combine them to make a new original version. Just remember to use your own words; never directly copy any part of an article.
A quick way to write an article
The hardest, yet most common way to write an article is top-down. That’s when you start by writing the first sentence of the first paragraph, and then continue until you’ve completed the last sentence of the last paragraph. While writing this way, you will often think about ideas or headings to be placed later in the article, but by the time you get to that section you’ve forgotten it. There are certainly some people that can write this way, but it is difficult for most. Besides, why do it this way when there is a much easier method?
First, you need to think about what your article will be about. Don’t just come up with it as you’re writing, sit down and seriously think what it will be about. Write down all the main points you want to cover and consider the order in which to present them. Think about what the headings and subheadings will be. What do you want to present in the opening paragraph? What should be the overall message presented in the conclusion? It’s a good idea to write this all down in a text editor; this way you can re-arrange the sections and headings as much as you want to see what works best.
Brainstorming the topics for each section and coming up with the headings should be the longest part of the writing process, but once you’ve done this, you will have a detailed outline for your article. The rest is easy; you just fill in the blanks. You already know what will be in each section; now it’s time to give more details.
If you write your articles this way, after a while you will find you can produce them easier and on a steadier basis, which will greatly help your article marketing. You won’t find it as hard to get your ideas written out and the overall quality of your writing will also improve. This will result in an increase of viewings for your articles and more importantly, a boost in traffic to your website.
