Love Can Unite Us All

Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs.

As children, our parents often say how much love they harness us. Whether it’s when we are put to sleep at night or when we make them proud by bringing home good grades or excelling at a hard task. Our parents try to shield us from the ills of the world, like hate and malcontent. As we grow older we are sometimes contaminated with the evils of this planet. We are tempted to look out for ourselves by being selfish. Often we grow envious of those that have more than we do, such as riches and material possessions. Yet the values that we are instilled with as children often seem to leave us at the most convent times. Opportunities arise that seem attractive; but prove deadly once we take them. Frequently we are forced to re-visit the principles within because of adverse situations such as a death or personal situations. Nevertheless, we should always remember the teachings of our parents no matter the situation. As long as we speak with a language saturated in love; the difficulties we face in life may serve as a vehicle to unite us all.

Barack Obama has energized a nation that seems to be seeped in despair. Americans are steadily losing jobs, our economy continues to spiral downward and we are bombarded with news of death from the Middle East. Mr. Obama has formed a language with Americans that speaks to their conscious. That awareness is filled with words of hope and sanguinity. From this experience we must capture the buoyancy of anticipation for an innovative; new world. Our political alignments may not agree with Obama the politician, but we must give consent to his message of hope. In order to create a new nation where our children are able to thrive in a healthy environment, our principles and values have to break through the rigid outer shells we have created. The process of contravention, getting rid of old habits will not happen hurriedly. Holding each other accountable for the things that escape from our hearts out of our mouths is a step we must take. Allowing hate speech to cut the fabric in which this country was built leads to a road of destruction. We must all believe in the message of hope, not from Obama but from within, or we are doomed to repeat the devastation of the past.

If we are to study great leaders of the past there is a common thread that binds them all. Each had a deep and un-conditional love for the well being of the human race. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wanted so badly for this nation to come together all in the name of love. Americans must harness the energy that Martin left behind and move toward creating a society where love is how we measure the greatness of an individual. John F. Kennedy wanted a nation that would ascend past its discretions and move toward unity. Both men are shining examples of how love can serve as a fuse to bring our great nation together.

We have reached a juncture in this country where hate and conflict seem to serve as our universal language. Allowing individuals to speak in distasteful tones of one another seems to connect us all. The enjoyment of seeing another individual in pain and strife should not define a nation. Examine our TV shows, music, and media and you will see where my information comes from. Our news shows reek with images of death and criminal activity. Media shows are dedicated to showing the collapse of some of this nation’s most beloved people. Editorial sections of the newspaper dedicate entire pages toward degrading another individual. This is not the type of nation Dr. King dreamed of creating for our children. We must rise above our own differences and take hold of the direction that our nation is headed.

Love must serve as the language that unites our great country. Allow the hope that resonates in your heart to leap from your soul onto the streets of America. As soon as we all come together and form a common bond of love then we can realize the potential that our country truly holds.
