Research proposal is very important as it will decide whether your project will be chosen for the study or not.
The first step in making the research proposal is the identification of the problem, because only when a research worker becomes conscious of the presence of a problem does he feel the need to find a solution for it. He will be more successful in his work; the clearer a problem is in his mind. And in order to recognize a problem it is necessary for the researcher to be objective and practical in his approach, and conscious of every element of his work and aspect of it. For this he needs a healthy outlook and profound generosity of spirit so that he should realize the short comings of his method. Such problems are a common feature of the researcher’s life. In the words of J.B.Best,” Researchers will discover acres of diamonds in their backyards, and the possessor of the inquisitive and imaginative mind may translate one of these problems into a worth while and practicable research project.” Sensitivity is essential if the problems are to be recognized and it is not found equally in all the researchers.
Once the problem has been recognized and identified the next step is defining and delimiting that problem. It is essential that its definition should contain no word the meaning of which is not precise and clear. Hence, it is desirable that every word used to define the problem should be carefully defined and made definite. Delimiting the problem implies that its sphere should b determined because a scientific analysis of a problem is not possible if its sphere is not definite. And in defining its sphere it is essential to keep in mind the fact that the problem neither be too limited nor too widely distributed. For example, it is possible to conduct successful research on the absence of discipline among students forming a particular class or classes. In delimiting the problem its highest point or apex is determined. Once this apex is determined and has been fully grasped it becomes comparatively easier to locate the basic causes that terminate in the problem.
At the base of every research there is a definite hypothesis and the research either establishes or disproves that hypothesis. Defining hypothesis, H.H.MacAshan has written “A hypothesis is a tentative assumption drawn from knowledge and theory which is used as a guide in the investigation of other facts and theory that are as yet unknown”. The hypothesis of action research concerns the solution of some particular problem and hence it is called action hypothesis.
Research methodology is another very important aspect of the Research proposal. This section will determine the sampling techniques need to be used, data collection methods and the analysis and interpretation of collected data to find out the conclusion. The research methodology needs to be totally unbiased, scientific, objective in nature and also reliable.
In the research proposal the above mentioned points should come to make your proposal atrong,
