If you have been considering Bikram Yoga there are a few things you should know about it first. Unlike aerobic exercises that get your heartrate going Bikram yoga does not require such specifics. The main purpose of this type of yoga is to restrict the blood flow in the vessels and veins and then suddenly releasing the pressure causing the blood to flow through the veins rapidly at first. This type of yoga can cleanse your veins and vessels. There are many ways to prepare for this type of yoga and not everyone can do it. If Bikram yoga is right for you, you will need to be prepared for your class.
How to do Bikram Yoga
To perform Bikram yoga you will put your body into a tourniquet using stretching techniques. The pressure in your body will stop the blood flow. After this is successful you will release causing the blood to flow fast.
Before you start Bikram Yoga
Because this yoga can be intense you will need to prepare for your class. After locating a facility that offers Bikram Yoga you need to prepare your body by drinking two liters of water per day. Start drinking water one week before you start, especially if you are not use to drinking that much water every day. If you drink soda, coffee, tea, or other drinks that contain cafffeine you need to stop for several reasons. The first reason is because water is better for your body. Your body needs a certain amount of water to keep you healthy. Second, the caffeine in drinks is addictive and third, you will take your Bikram yoga in a classroom that is heated to 105 degrees. Because you you will be in such a hot temperature and because you will be performing yoga you will need to dress appropriately. Do not eat anything 1-3 hours before your class. Your system needs to be empty in order for Bikram yoga to work properly. Dress comfortably in clothing such as a bathing suit or tank top and exercise shorts. You don't want to wear baggy clothing as they will just make it more difficult on you.
After Bikram Yoga
You should feel fine after your session or you may feel symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, or short of breath it is probably due to not breathing properly while exercising or another small adjustment you will need to make.
Muscle soreness is normal after your first class of Bikram yoga. Do not stop because of the soreness but continue as much as possible until you can return to your class. Bikram yoga needs to be practiced every day for at least two months straight. There are CD's and DVD's that you can purchase to work out at home.
