What are the Benefits of Yoga?

Author: Laura Assafi Author Ranking Blue | Posted: 15-07-2008 | Comments: 0 | Views: 10 | Rating:  (216) Article Popularity - Blue (?) Got a Question? Ask.

Yoga, the ancient art from India combines whole body wellness and meditation to increase health, focus and mind-body connection. We've all seen pictures of yogi's contorted into fantastic, almost unbelievable positions. More recently, the image of a hard body on an oceanfront cliff, posed toward the sun has become the poster child for yoga practitioners. The most common image of a yoga student now is a young man or woman, yoga mat rolled tight and tucked under one arm, and water bottle sloshing in the other. The fact that yoga benefits both sexes so well is a testament to the many benefits of yoga training.

Yoga can help carve lean, long muscles, burn fat, increase flexibility, and stamina, all of which can make you feel younger. Feeling younger is the best benefit of any workout!

Yoga is easy to learn, difficult to master, and has the side benefit of being absolutely hilarious. You must maintain a sense of humor when trying to contort like a pretzel. The human body can protest in any number of ways including the release of noxious toxic fumes! Don't worry, everybody else in the room is either on the verge or just a lot quieter than you!

The most important aspect of yoga is breathing, the foundation of life. Focus on breathing creates a meditative state, which allows the concentration to shift from the pain of the muscle to the rhythmic act of breathing in and out. Breath control can also lead to great muscle development in the core area of the body.
These are just a few of the benefits of practicing yoga in your daily workout. For a more comprehensive overview, visit www.wellicious.com for more great tips and advice.
